Martha Camfield's workshop on seeds
The Wonder of Seeds
On the 27th of September 2003 Martha Camfield came to Macoun Club to give the Juniors and the Intermediates a workshop on seeds. She brought a lot of plants and seeds with her so that we all could have a close look at the real things. At the meeting, she taught us about the secrets of seeds. She also showed us what an aster looks like. An aster is a purple flower with many petals around the edge. The most interesting thing I have learned is that this kind of flower can be made of several hundred tiny, tiny flowers. I certainly didn't know this until Martha told us at the meeting. Martha let us dissect about ten of the seeds she brought (she brought about twelve different seeds). She cut open one of the seeds for us so that we could see what was inside it. There were about a dozen kids at the table studying seeds. We were all very interested learning about the wonder of seeds. Time passed so quickly that we even didn't notice that the clock was ticking to noon! It was time to conclude the meeting. Overall I think the most important thing Martha showed us was the wonder that can be in just one seed. Thank you, Martha, we all had a fantastic time.
