Sand Pit Excursion in Pakenham

By Gabriel L.

Oct 2nd, 2004

We arrived in Pakenham at 10:00 a.m. It was sunny and cold. There were six kids on the field trip and seven adults. We met Gerry Lee near his house as we started walking. Then we continued on to the sand pit and looked at bear tracks, kingfisher dens, and deer tracks. We also looked at lichens. There were ravens flying around the sand pit. They kept flying away and coming back.

Then we walked through the woods and turned onto Gerry Lee's property. We walked for a while and then stopped beside the beaver pond to make a fire and have lunch.

After lunch, we went to Mary's cabin. There were hunters there with ducks. The hunters let us pluck the ducks and take all the feathers we wanted. There was one Canada goose, one female wood duck and one male wood duck. We couldn't take the tail feathers because they had to be sent to the government.

Next, we walked to Gerry Lee's cabin and went inside for a while. Gerry Lee was there, and he told us a bunch of stories about his property. Then it started raining harder, and we started making our way back to the car. We didn't really stop to look at anything on the way back

When we got to the cars, we left and drove home in a really heavy rainstorm. The field trip was a lot of fun.
