The September 20th, 2003 field trip
An early autumn trip the Macoun Club's nature study area The field trip last Saturday was the best one I ever had. We went to the Study Area. We walked in for a few minutes and I found a fuzzy yellow caterpillar. Johnny learned that thistle roots are edible. He also found out that some things that look like Wild Grapes are not! I found a Garter Snake. I caught it and showed it to our leader, Rob Lee, and the others, then set it loose. We saw several other snakes near the end of the day. We saw some kids catching baby Snapping Turtles near the path. They let us hold some of the turtles and we set them free. Around lunch we were getting really hungry. Rob thought he knew a good place to set up for lunch, but we found that some people had thrown beer bottles around. Rob found a better spot a short distance away. After lunch we went to see a Beaver lodge high and dry, and got to crawl inside it. It was kind of claustrophobic.
By the time we got back to the cars, we were all very tired. It was a GREAT day!
